My summer boat trip coincided perfectly with the start of the Race to Alaska. All along the way we would watch the little boats go by, braver than us in the poor weather. One boat in particular we kept an eye on, a friend’s boat, team “Yes!”.
One morning the fog lifted on Johnstone Strait, and after checking the R2AK tracker we realized that team “Yes!” was just across the strait! After a few quick messages we learned that they needed a screwdriver, so we met in the middle of the strait and passed them the replacement screwdriver and bottle of port wine.
There was too much happening to paint in the moment, so this painting is from a photo I took while we adjusted for the hand-off.
